A Little Stone Crossings Housekeeping

Stone Crossings Mantle

Without fanfare, on April 1, Stone Crossings officially released. Maybe it's good that the book came quietly onto the scene, considering it was April Fool's Day.

Early-bird copies had been floating around since I went to Mount Hermon. And some enterprising friends figured out that Amazon would deliver before the release date.

One such friend, when the book arrived, had a friendly "fight" with her spouse, over who'd get first dibs. She won and proceeded to read the book in two hours; at 11:30 pm, she considered calling to tell me her thoughts on it, but must have remembered too well how much I love my sleep. She called me the following day.

Another friend has been happily walking around for about two weeks and hasn't cracked it open yet. Everyone reads differently — some gulp, some sip, some have to go through a courtship. It fascinates me to see the variation in reading ways and responses.

There have been some kind words, like these from IVCF Area Director Jason Gaboury, "Best travelogue on Christian spirituality I've read since Traveling Mercies, but deeper, more profound, subtler." Bryron Borger's generous review at Hearts and Minds Books is also appreciated.

For virtual friends who want to share about Stone Crossings, here are a few things to keep in mind...

- Stone Crossings Blog Post Tool Kit has Stone Crossings links

- I'll put a link here if you do an SC post and let me know about it

- if you take a photo of SC and provide a small story to go with it, I'll put a permanent link featuring it in my sidebar... I'll also feature your photo and story in a regular post (see Links for Art for more information)

That's it. I don't prefer housekeeping, but somebody's got to pick up the broom occasionally. Today, it fell to me.

Hi there. This is just the footnote about getting one of the 10 signed copies.

You would need to do a few things:

- tell me you want one here in the comment box or in future comment boxes on future posts; first 10 first served

- tell me how you'd like it signed (how you'd like to be addressed, or if you want no name at all; if you want a little note or just a signature)

- send a check for $18.00 (sorry it's more expensive than Amazon this way due to postage and handling :) to...

My Name
c/o Community Bible Church
301 Chadeayne Road
Ossining, NY 10562

That's it. :)

LL -- I flew through the book, loved it ALL, intend to blog about it, but first need to go back through it a little more slowly. You are so incredibly gifted, and I feel like I know you better now having read your words. It was such a generous offering of yourself to write this book.

Ms. Barkat,
Is it too late for the list?
Also, I thank Mr. Borger for getting me here.
Thanks.

Sam... and I'm glad you are here. Yes, still room on the list. I will leave a comment when it has closed.

Hmmm. I've been too wrapped up in the flurry of activity that is my life to have thought ahead enough to have been enterprising enough to have ordered or pre-ordered. That means I am still copy-less and I would like, if possible, to take advantage of your generous offer to personalize. Please let me know if I should break out the checkbook.

Danielle... and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about it, for better or worse. :)

Nannykim... wish away. :)

Every Square... thank you. I think my greatest enjoyment will come in seeing any ways the work touches people.

Christianne... so, you make me feel better that I did this little bit of housekeeping. It's not really my way. Can't wait to share thoughts with you!

Spaghettiepie... enjoy.

Lloyd... I love how you always sense the pictures.

Katrina... a savorer. Welcome to the table. :)

Nikki.... yes, just send your check to the address above. It would delight me to send you a copy.

Wanted to stop by and say congrats on the release! I've put a moratorium on my book-buying until I can catch up with books I own but have not yet read. But after that, look out, baby! I'm finding a copy!

Woohoo!! There's some fanfare for you.

I have my copy and can't wait to read it. Well, obviously I CAN wait, but I have some other reading obligations to attend to. I'm planning on reading it next week when I have 4 hours on an airplane all alone (and 4 more coming home a few days later). I'll link up and everything when I review it later this month.

am I too late to get a copy. I checked with my leader of my group. she said it would be fine. we meet the 2nd saturday of the month at 2pm to 330 or so. we have a chance to read our works and then comment on them. we are doing the joy luck club for the big read and are doing works on immigration in our family.

we also have started a sub group on poetry. we have an informal format of sitting around the table and we have cookies and soda as refreshments.
thanks. scott

Sigh. Another book to add to my ever-growing Amazon list! Just kidding - I am looking forward to reading this. Love the comparison to Traveling Mercies and just from reading your blog posts, have a sneaking suspicions it will probably surpass TM in my estimation. I hope your thoughts bless many.

Your housekeeping dusts her off and she gleams, a polished stone. I want to pick her up, tuck her in my pocket, carry her home... but can't find her in Canada... I will have to go look for her stateside.
Some stones are worth looking for.

Warmest congratulations....

Yep.
Must find these stones--evocative and glinting with words.

I'm disappointed to see on Google maps that when I'm in NYC this coming weekend I'll be so much closer to you and yet not close enough to just pop in and visit.
I'll have to get a copy of Stone Crossings from IVP next time I'm over there! I look forward to reading it after getting a taste of your talent here.

I just ordered a copy from Amazon and look forward to reading it! I had coffee with Charity when I was in Indianapolis, and she raved. (I was eager to read it before, and even more so now!)

And no fanfare? Really?

If the Llama lived closer, we'd have fanfare. You know how llamas love parties! :-)

Nancy... it just felt that way. Glad you can relate! :)

Heather... thanks. I appreciate the warmth of such congratulations.

Michelle... love that! Shalom, sister.

Jenn... thanks. I would welcome your road trip. :)

Jennifer... that was very amusing! I feel properly fanfared now. And honored to be accompanying you on your plane trip.

Scott... not too late. I had reserved one for you earlier based on your other contact. Let me think about the group thing, okay? Summer may be better timing.

Kirsten... it was fun to share the book face to face. And I'm so glad you've mentioned you're the "courtship" type. A comfort to some other readers, I'm sure. :)

Gordon... thank you for your pastoral blessing. It feels good and right.

Dianne... hope you enjoy it. I think it's different from Traveling Mercies. More bible. But I found it interesting that Jason made that comparison. (Always interesting to hear people's impressions.)

Ann... sweet and beautiful words. Now, I believe Cook Canada is carrying it. (Look at the Blog Post Tool Kit on the Stone Crossings book club wiki. There's a link.)

A Musing... NYC?! Tell me when and where you'll be.

Llama... fanfare amidst llamas. Now that would be something. :) And coffee WITH CHARITY? I'm jealous; I admit it.

I want you to know I love this post! It is wonderful. I have added your blog to my list of favorites. I will try to read as often as my health and time allows. I will remember you in my prayers often during my quiet times with God. I pray that God will bless you abundantly. May you continue to make a difference in lives for Jesus and His Kingdom.

I quickly grabbed a copy for myself, but I'm grumbling because I won't be able to start a new book until next week, at least. (sigh)

But when next week comes, I will need to reserve some time for reading!!

Please sign it, "To my favorite rodeo clown..."

Been up against my last deadline at my current company and having to put in evenings to finish, sorry for the delay in responding!

Good to stop in and be in your presence (yeah, I read your current post!) Appreciate you, your friendship and your work, Laura.

OK - finally through teaching for the week and finally back here to see if there are copies at your house still available - if so, I'd like three. I will send you a check as soon as you verify number available - but will put inscription stuff in the letter with the check as it is personal.

I have checked the "email followup comments" box, so I should know when you respond. If I dont' get right back to you, would you please leave me a comment on my blog (the crazy place) so I will know and can mail off the check? Thanks Susan

Good - thanks - I have to write you an letter about the people - and then you can decide on the inscriptions. I know - sounds like a cop-out, but it just seems to me that what the Holy Spirit says to you about two of these particular people will be much better than what I can come up with because, although we've been some similar places there's one you've had to repeatedly walk through that I have not.

Actually - you'd better make that 4, I forgot one for myself!

I know you're off in just a few hours - I hate for you to be so close - less than 4 hours I think - and not be able to come and see you!! But, you will have a letter when you return home!
