Merry, Merry

"The Settling"

Christmas
descends
as gently as
the dove
that lit upon
His shoulder.

It rustles
snow-white
feathers and,
with the softness
of a child's
breath,
whispers
impossible
love.

And, now, I shall settle into a vacation... see you in the New Year. Until then, merry merry to you.

Doves photo by Gail Nadeau. Used with permission.

I love the poem and the photograph, LL. The photo makes me want to inhabit Christmas, though I'm not exactly sure what that even means. The poem struck wonder into my heart: that Christmas would descend as gently and quietly as the dove. The "first" Christmas was this way, speaking of impossible love, but so can Christmas be today, sneaking upon us unawares, until we cannot help but finally know it is there (for those who notice) and moving outward in impossible love through the love we choose to show our others.

I love the poem. I wish I felt that way. Christmas settles in for me about like a Texas country boy settles onto a two ton bull about to be released into the ring.

Yee Haw! Happy Christmas, Y'all!

The photo left me breathless.
The poem was received like a cup of hot chocolate: Mmmmm...

Then mg shouts "Yee-Haw!" and I have to laugh out loud.

Christmas blessings to you, your family, and the friends you have gathered here.

Ah, Craver, you are too funny. Yes, the "Yee haw!" was a little break in the rhythm here. But I accept all kinds of comments. :) Maybe Mark will write his own Christmas poem... about a bull coming in to knock over the tree... that'd be good.

Best wishes for a Happy Christmas with your family, and may 2007 be good to you and your dear ones. It's raining and foggy here in Canada, perhaps in NY too.... whatever happened to the fabled White Christmas??
