L.L., this is for you...
a photographer captures an external instant
with a clever mechanized
click.
an image caught
between blinking.
a poet conveys an internal beauty
with a heart inked
beat.
an feeling caught
between breathing.
On why poetry matters today:
“You read it aloud in the darkened room, your lamp the center of one pool of light. From another bulb’s halo , the poet sent the words out to you. Held in the vowels and caught on the consonants, somehow, is your own story written by a stranger. Truth unknown before now falls on you from the uneven ends of the lines. This moment of recognition is as ancient as the cave paintings we shine our flashlights on, deciphering our story from the shapes and tracings of another’s, the one with the courage to pick up the colors. “ Missy Kemp
I realized I had left my entry for the giveaway in the wrong spot, but in retrospect, I'm happy I left it here first, for your creative life is really an act of courage, LL.
Now I have also left it where the giveaway actually is-- I often get lots on cyberspace. :-)I cannot imagine a lovelier evening than your book and a glass of wine.
Thank you for noting my poem "Haiti, 4:53 p.m.".
The image seems Chagall-like.
poetry began late
in the quiet hush
of a lens
the steady glide
of the pen
merged
That's it? A simple comment could net me some poetry and wine? Wooo hooo! I'm here!
